Introductions: Nicole Daniels

Hello!

My name is Nicole Daniels, and I’m the Chair of the Shawnee Oak Wind Service Unit. I’m a lifelong Springfield resident, a working mom, and proud mom to three amazing girls: Clara (10), Lucy (5), and Louise (4). I love crafting, playing both board and video games, and spending time outdoors with my family.

Our Girl Scout journey began in the winter of 2021 when Clara brought home a flyer from school. I signed us up, thinking it would be a fun way to stay social while working from home and a chance to spend more time with Clara. What I didn’t expect was just how much this experience would change my life.

Being a troop leader has been more than just fun—it’s been truly fulfilling. I’ve learned so much alongside the girls, watched them grow in confidence, and felt the joy of being part of their journey. If you ask me about my troop in person, there’s a good chance I’ll tear up—I love those girls dearly, and being their leader is one of the greatest joys in my life.

In fall 2022, I began volunteering with the service unit, diving deeper into how Girl Scouts operates, building new friendships, and growing as a leader. By fall 2023, I stepped into the role of Service Unit Chair. Now I focus on planning events for our troops, supporting both new and seasoned troop leaders, and working to ensure every girl has a meaningful and positive Girl Scout experience.

This year, I also took on the role of planning our annual Service Unit Camporee—my favorite event of the year. There’s something truly special about watching girls take on new challenges, build friendships, and discover just how strong and capable they are. When I talk to former Girl Scouts, their favorite memories are almost always about camp—especially those who went to WhipPoorWill, where we host our camporee. I feel incredibly lucky to help create those magical moments for our girls today.

Seeing Clara grow during her time in Girl Scouts has also been a real privilege. She has become kind, confident, and brave through her many experiences - none of which we would have had without Girl Scouts. It has given her a safe space to try anything and everything her heart desires. She has also made valuable friendships both in and out of our troop. My two younger daughters are anxious to join Girl Scouts themselves, and I look forward to joining them along their journeys too.

Watching Clara grow during her time in Girl Scouts has been an incredible privilege. Through her many experiences, she has blossomed into a kind, confident, and courageous young girl—traits that have been nurtured in the supportive environment Girl Scouts provides. It’s been a safe space where she’s felt empowered to explore her interests and chase her dreams. Along the way, she’s also formed meaningful friendships, both within our troop and beyond. Now, my two younger daughters are eager to begin their own Girl Scout adventures, and I can’t wait to support them on their journeys as well.
